Back To You 05:36
It's a long way to paradise When you're standing by the roadside And the lights out in the distance Are an ever-fading guide Well I used to think I'd find my way But it was all a waste of time Cause when you’re standing in the shadow You lose your place in time I see you standing at the corner Lighting up your smoke And your voice cuts through the darkness For the life you'll never know And as I make my way through the junction line At Highway 69 See me staring out the window Looking for the signs That take me back to you So I won't forget you As I search my way through the night For this child I left behind Standing at the old steel bridge When we were only nine I can hear the fading whistle As the cars move down the track And the moon shards all around us The light it takes me back Driving through this town I feel you all around When I hear the train and she's calling And her light upon your hair And the cold steel line before us We were all alone out there As her light shone through the blackness Is how you left me standing there So if you think I might forget you When the dark finds your despair I will hear the fading whistle And the sound that took us there What could ever match the wonder Of how a life could be stripped so bare It's a solemn harsh reminder But I know that you're in her care And if I look I'll find you there On that train somewhere Ooooo...

I was walking through the oak grove Started talking to the old crow He sang a song but sang too low It was the only song that he know Tell me I’d like to know Where does the sun go? Tell me I’d like to know How does that song go? Floating in the summer breeze Underneath the evening trees Sipping back on sweet lemonade On days like this I’m not afraid The wildest sunset that I’ve ever seen And in the field coyotes scream Then comes the moon my old friend And past the stars I see the end Tell me I’d like to know Where does the sun go? I’d like to tell you but I don’t know Where did the song go? We got a violin and an old guitar It’s up to you to make a choice So come and join our gypsy band Because we love the sound of your voice I asked the man with the old squeeze box To play me a tune I’m feeling better and I’m not so blue Feels like I’ve been here before Tell me I’d like to know Where does the sun go? I’d like to tell you but I don’t know So just kiss the sun good-bye Tell me I’d like to know Where does the sun go? Tell me I’d like to know How does that song go?

Well it's a shame you know to think that we can't work this out And now I've done all there is that's left to do. And there's no sense in waiting by the telephone Cause all the talking in the world won't bring me home. You know I'll never be that little girl you married Still clinging to the moon. You can feel so helpless when you never have to grow up And you're clinging like you do. Well now I've said all there is that I could ever hope to say And all the words could never take this pain away. So now I'm spitting out useless energy, that kept me running ‘round have empty On the filthy fumes that kept us half alive. You know I'll never be that little girl you married Still clinging to the moon. Such a useless habit and you know you have it But you're clinging like you do. You know I thought I had it all when I was young and full of life, Wishing on that shooting star that burns across the night. Well all the hope in my child eyes Could never set it right. So you'll see it's not that bad and we can let it go Cause the truth is always brighter when you know. Now I'm standing at a distance and I'm firmly on the ground And the moon she's just a light that guides me 'round. You know I'll never be that little girl you married Still clinging to the moon. Such a useless habit, and you'll never quite shake it But you can leave it on the moon.

Dresses in wind Sheets on the line Kisses on fingers Grapes on the vine Footprints in sand Wine in my hand I was awakened By the thrust of your hand There out on the shore We were fighting this war I call to Saint Peter As he turns to close the door I'm blinded by the light At the foot of the sea Fall before the gods Who won't rescue me Lily white skin Dusted by sand Tears in your eyes Clutch the stone in my hand I was awake But I couldn't see Tossed to the waves Where there's no one but me And there out on the shore Where we were fighting this war I call to Saint Peter As he turns to lock the door I'm blinded by the light And at the foot of the sea Fall before the gods Who won't rescue me There out on the shore I will wait for you once more In your foam drenched lace Shrouded 'bout your face Stranded on the shore Drowning by the sea Calling for Saint Peter As he smiles back at me

Come Around 06:10
I woke up this morning snow on the ground The trees so heavy bowed to the ground And just the night before a little friend dies And my girl she looks ups with tears in her eyes She asks what are we going to do? And why does it happen this way? I know it's not enough, all I can say is, The sun will come around again Snow crystals falling and I can't see out The tears keep falling for the ones that I've lost Every few years, a box in the ground Another soul leaving and I can't make it stop I ask what are we going to do? And why does it happen this way? No it's not enough, all I can say is, The sun will come around again Mmmmmm, Mmmmmm Years go by and still so much to learn We hold onto summer though the leaves still turn Snow dust to water, nothing can last Our memories still burning, we reach for the past We ask, what are we going to do? And why does it happen this way No it's not enough, all I can say is The sun will come around again The sun will come around again, Yeah, the sun will come around Close your eyes, let the night take the tears from you Shine a light, there's no place where the dark can hide Rest my child, take my hand, ride this wave, just like we planned Know you're safe in my arms, I'm not far, never far

I waited for thunder For a battle Or even a blister But in the end the light died With the weight of The weight of a whisper Where's the fire? The snapping of twigs? The howling at the sky? The river was deep The fall so steep An echo lost in a lie Sun catching silence No dread No fear of danger An empty room, Forgotten breath The whisper of a stranger I waited for thunder For a battle Or even a blister Where's the fire? A snapping of twigs? The howling at the sky? The river was deep The fall so steep An echo lost in a lie I waited for thunder For a battle Or even a blister

I came to earth Wrapped in shadow I took my hand and I Reached into soil Underneath the Oak Her bark still damp with rain I stretched between the roots And I felt inside her veins I got down on my knees Beside a heart still beating And she asked me if I please Please stop her heart from bleeding I can hear her heart still beating I can hear her heart still beating I can hear her heart still beating I can hear her heart still beating

It came apart It had to start Something more here in the dark Nothing's never not enough 'til you have it all You're so easy to give up I can't love you I can't love you And you know you can't love me too So don't look back too long There's so much to see so move along There's a whole world out there, stay strong Reach inside you, don't forget Take the long view, we're not done yet You're the strongest one I've ever met

Black holes, needle to soul Ties the man to her heart Little hands take up the threads Sew up the eyes to their frayed little heads Ink from the bottle A drop for the dead What comes of tomorrow Weep out the dread The moon for her lamplight Roots for her bed A stone for her pillow Anguished she treads So I sit by the graveside And mourn her lament It's the last thing she told me The last thing she said Singing, Ahhhhh Singing, Ahhhhh The last thing she told me The last thing she said The last thing she told me The last thing she said Yeah, the last thing she told me The last thing she said The words stuck in my head Stuck in my head Singing, Ahhhhh Singing, Ahhhhh
